Annual RPA award recipients


Excellence in market development - Charlie Wood, left, East Arkansas Planning & Development District, accepts award from RPA's Doug Carlson. EAPDD has held several workshops to acquaint cities, counties and state DOT with A-R.
 

 
Outstanding state DOT achievement - Gale Page, Florida DOT bituminous materials engineer, accepts award from Jeffrey Reed, RPA president. The state was recognized for its durable, safe, and cost effective pavements, and use of more scrap tires on an annual basis than any other state.


Pioneer award - Equbalai Charania, City of Phoenix civil engineer, accepts award from outgoing RPA president Mark Belshe. Phoenix was honored for its role in the development of A-R paving materials since 1966.



Outstanding achievement - Bob Erdman, Maricopa County (AZ) DOT materials engineer, accepts award from RPA past president Jeffrey Smith. The county has an ongoing A-R program using both hot mix and spray applications.

 
Engineering excellence - Margot Yapp, Nichols Consulting Engineers, accepts award from Cliff Ashcroft, RPA 2nd vice president. The Santa Cruz, CA firm was recognized for its in-house training programs and A-R project designs.


Outstanding state DOT program - Rebecca Davio, TXDOT recycling coordinator, holds award for Texas' recycling program, flanked by Ken Fulz, left, TXDOT director of pavements, and Dale Rand, TXDOT bituminous engineer.
 


Outstanding research - Dr. Han Zhu, Arizona State University Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, accepts award from RPA's Doug Carlson. Innovative project - Jim Queener, Granite Construction, accepts award from Cliff Ashcroft, RPA 2nd vice president, for its work on a 150 mile A-R OGFC pavement on I-5 near Coalinga, CA. Granite's Mark Chalfa looks on.
