LandStar acquires PolyTek Rubber & Recycling

LandStar, Inc. has acquired substantially all of the outstanding shares of PolyTek Rubber & Recycling, Inc. including all PolyTek subsidiaries.

PolyTek, established in 1996, owns and operates rubber recycling facilities in Queen Creek, AZ; Bristow, OK; Chambersberg, PA; and Flat Rock, MI. The company is the world's largest producer of crumb rubber and has consolidated revenues of about $17 million.

LandStar plans to retrofit the PolyTek facilities to enhance production, quality control, and product mix with a $5 million capital expenditure program this year.

The company has also announced the formation of LandStar Polymer Asphalt, Inc. to specialize in the manufacture and development of Asphalt-Rubber binder materials and named Jeffrey Smith as its divisional vice president for Asphalt-Rubber sales and marketing.

Andy Zappettini and Ed Oliver have also joined the company to focus on the development of the rubber modified asphalt applications division. Zappettini will serve as vice president and general manager. Oliver has been named divisional vice president and general superintendent.

Smith, a past RPA president, has served in the rubber asphalt industry for 25 years and has international recognition as an industry authority. Zappettini has 16 years of experience in the industry and has served as general manager of a major Asphalt-Rubber company since 1997. Oliver entered the industry in 1983 and has been responsible for project management as well as equipment design and manufacture.
