We're looking for winners

Last year the RPA presented awards to states, cities, counties, and individuals for making significant contributions to the growth of the Asphalt-Rubber industry. The awards were selected by a committee elected by the RPA membership.

The 2001 committee is: Cliff Ashcroft, FNF Construction; Murl Butler, Western States Surfacing; Jeff Smith, Modified Asphalt Technology; Alan Chicoine, All States Asphalt; and Sidney Cox, Cox Paving

For the 2001 awards, to be presented at the annual RPA meeting in Washington, DC in January, agencies, companies, or individuals may submit nominations for the categories below. The entry deadline is October 25.

Outstanding Achievement Award. Presented to a state, country, or city public works department for the use of a significant number of tires in asphalt paving. Population will be a factor.

Thousand Oaks, California was the winner for 2000.

Outstanding Program Award. Presented to a state, county, or city waste management board or transportation department for efforts in developing markets for crumb rubber produced from scrap tires.

The California Integrated Waste Management Board was the 2000 winner.

Innovative Project Award. Presented to an agency or contractor for a successful Asphalt-Rubber warranty project or a project that required some unique challenges in the design or construction procedure.

All States Asphalt won this award in 2000.

Excellence in Research Award. Presented to an agency or university for work done in furthering the use of crumb rubber in highway construction. Not limited to pavements.

Sacramento County, California took this honor for 2000.
