Recovery Technologies

Recovery Technologies, a division of Casella Waste Systems, Inc., has joined the RPA as a producer member.

Casella Waste Systems is a publicly traded solid waste management company based in Rutland, Vermont. It operates a number of divisions generally located in the eastern U.S. and Canada.

Recovery Technologies manufactures crumb rubber using a proprietary cryogenic process. It makes about 15 million pounds of black and white crumb material annually.

Through an equity partner, Casella owns a portion of and operates New Heights Recovery and Power, LLC, a complete tire recycling facility in Ford Heights, IL. New Heights' processes include tire shredding for production of boiler fuel, off-the-road tire processing and all-black crumb production.

Epps chairs new technical advisory board

The RPA Board of Directors has merged the Advisory and Technical Advisory Committees to create a Technical Advisory Board.

Dr. Jon Epps, former professor of Civil Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno, now with Granite Construction, has been named chairman. The vice chairman is Gene Morris, P.E., retired director of research, Arizona Department of Transportation. Both have internationally recognized expertise with Asphalt-Rubber paving materials.

The Technical Advisory Board consists of academicians and professional engineers from agencies and industry with extensive expertise in Asphalt-Rubber paving technologies. It will provide guidance on policy and research for the association.

Officers reelected, Executive Committee expanded

The following RPA officers were elected to a second term at the January 27 annual meeting in Monterey, California.

President: Mark Belshe, P.E., FNF Construction, Tempe, AZ. First Vice President: Robert Winters, CEO of Atlos Rubber, Inc., Los Angeles. Second Vice President: Jeffrey Reed, president of International Surfacing Systems, Chandler, AZ. Secretary: Ross Kashiwagi, branch engineer of Granite Construction, Sacramento, CA. Treasurer: Wayne Silvia, Silvia Construction, Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Three were reelected and two were added as members-at-large of the Executive Committee. Reelected were Murray Quance, president of BAS Recycling, San Bernardino, CA; Mike Masson, CEO of PolyTek Rubber & Recycling, Phoenix, AZ; and Sidney Cox, vice president of Cox Paving Co., Blanco, TX. Added were Michael Harrington, vice president of Crumb Rubber Manufacturers, Rancho Dominquez, CA; and Cliff Ashcroft, marketing director of Manhole Adjusting, Inc., Monterey Park, CA.
