Asphalt-Rubber 2000 - Donna Carlson,

The conference in Vilamoura, Portugal, attracted delegates from
33 countries and featured 40 technical presentations as well
as a visit to Portugal's first tire recycling plant and an Asphalt-Rubber
Hot Mix paving demonstration. See a full report of the conference

TRB to hold conference on Asphalt-Rubber
The Committee on A2D02, chaired by Anne
Stonex, Operations Manager, Northeastern Center for Excellence
in Pavement Technology, Pennsylvania State University, will
hold two sessions on the "performance of crumb rubber modified
asphalt and Asphalt-Rubber paving materials" in Washington,
DC on Wednesday, January 10, 2001. One session will consist
of published TRB papers and the other is a conference session.
They will be held in the Empire Room of the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
Reports will be presented on the
apparent unique behavior of Asphalt-Rubber Hot Mixes in Arizona,
presented by George Way, ADOT, Gene Morris, and Douglas Carlson;
Texas experiences with Asphalt-Rubber, presented by Dale Rand,
TxDOT; examples of applications with conventional and Asphalt-Rubber
mixes, presented by Dr. Jorge Sousa; and the performance of Asphalt-Rubber
and conventional overlays under
accelerated paving testing, presented by Dr. John Harvey, UC
Berkeley. The Arizona and Texas presentations are based on statewide
project reviews conducted this summer. The conference session
will be held from 2:30 pm to 4:15 pm and the paper session will
be from 4:45 pm to 6:00 pm. For more information, please call
